The Veterans Association Food Bank recognizes any person who is currently serving or has honourably served in the Canadian Armed Forces. The Veterans Association Food Bank also recognizes and offers support to those currently serving, honourably discharged or honourably released Commonwealth Allies, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Peacekeepers, Merchant Marines, or Ferry Command (Coast Guard). Support will be extended to spouses, widows, widowers, and any dependent children in need. Proof of military service or affiliation required.
The Veterans Association Food Bank is a place for Veterans to gather. Having a place to get together, to have a coffee and visit, has had an extremely positive impact on our Veteran Community. Having empathetic comrades to speak to, has opened many doors of healing.
Our priority is to support Veterans and provide assistance in any situation that may arise. Keeping Veterans in their homes is the most effective way to support them through challenging times. We offer Emergency Veteran Assistance when funds are needed to for basic housing needs. All cases are reviewed by case workers and are subject to approval.
Case workers are responsible for all initial intake assessments. The individual circumstances and needs of each Veteran is identified, then solutions are determined to best support them. Veterans Helping Veterans is an initiative that provides peer support post-intake assessment.
Navigating through piles of paperwork and not knowing the available services and support are common challenges for Veterans. We ensure that all Veterans who seek our help have properly filed with Veterans Affairs Canada. We assist them with any claims and support them through the lengthy process.
Our growing list of Community Partnerships helps us refer Veterans to other local organizations when more help may be needed. Whether the challenge is homelessness, mental health & wellness concerns, PTSD diagnosis and treatment, loss of employment, lack of education and training or lack of medical care, we have trusted Veteran specific organizations and partnerships ready to help.
We provide a wide range of support to Veterans who bravely come through our doors. We help Veterans receive Veteran and Military discounts by signing them up for the CFone Card. We also assist in the process of filing for a Military ID. When needed, we can guide Veterans through the medical disability process and help with related referrals and paperwork. We offer workshops and training programs in partnership with other organizations.
We welcome visitors during our regular business hours.
